mentions of assault, suicide, and death

Born into the late 10th century, Jacopo had little experience in life itself before he was thrown into the world with only himself to depend on. His parents poverty resulted in them selling him off at an early age, to which he later escaped from the trader and traveled to France by foot from the rural parts of Italy. Without a single coin to his name he quickly took up theft in order to survive within the slums.

It wasn't long until Jacopo took on dirtier work. Adjusting to the constant violence he faced, he took up becoming a mercenary within his early teenage years. In that time his paths crossed with a twelve year old girl named Maria who, after Jacopo had brutally slain the man trying to sexually assault her, he immediately acquainted himself with and became friends. Like two pieces of a whole, they established a strong friendship and managed to create a brothel for themselves from the ground up -- a space for women to work within their own regulations and without a pimp. As Maria handled the girls and who was appropriate enough to work within the brothel, Jacopo essentially became their bodyguard.

But as time went on the simplicity of their lives were compromised by the oppressive ways of the lord of their land; making it near impossible for those within the slums to survive. In secret, Jacopo began planning a revolution by initiating an attack on the mentioned lord. However within the first steps of his plan he was already met with a massive obstacle: all of the slaves within the lord's manor were weak, some grotesquely injured due to the man's sadism, and had practically given up on ever escaping. It was only with the help of another slave named Gratien, who supposedly came from a long family of gladiators, that Jacopo was able to show his strength and prove to the remaining slaves that escape was possible. It is also the first he manages to catch a glimpse of one of the lord's most prized possessions.

At the time of the uprising Jacopo hardly stood a chance when engaging with the lord, however as the slaves escaped and more of the lord's forces were driven into a corner he himself decided to turn tail and run. It was then that Jacopo came face-to-face with the main sacrifice to all of the lord's blood sabbath's: a young girl, presumably just barely at the age of twelve, covered from head to toe in scars and her face peeling off due to the immense stress and abuse she had suffered from the lord. Unable to leave her behind, Jacopo frees the girl from her shackles and carries her back to the brothel after fleeing the manor with Gratien. There he begs for Maria to give her a roof over her head despite her circumstances leaving her unable to work, and they manage to come into an agreement to take care of the girl who is later to be named Morgana.

Years pass, and while Morgana is still relatively cold and judgmental of the women she works with Jacopo still brings her aid via protection and medication for the grotesque scars on her face. And while neither are completely necessary, he remains a constant in her life as he continues to live through the idea of traveling the world and showing it to her. This is where we're also introduced to Ceren, a young girl wanting to work within the brothel, with an eccentric attitude that quickly forms a strong bond of friendship with Jacopo and the remainder of the crew.

He is also approached by a woman claiming to be his birth mother, assuring him that he was the rightful heir to the throne and the current lord was nothing more then a fraud. Jacopo, while still planning to revolt against their lord, quickly realizes that she is lying and calls her out on her bluff, rejecting her offer.

However, as joyful as those times were, everything must soon enough come to an end. And unfortunately it comes in the form of a brutal attack against the brothel that leaves Jacopo knocked unconscious with a terrible stab wound, numerous women and guests being slaughtered or sold off, and Morgana no where to be found. Quickly assuming the worst, that she was either killed or taken away, Jacopo falls into dismay and returns to the noblewomen to see if her offer still stands -- with the ring at hand, Jacopo takes up the role as the true heir of the throne to begin a revolution against Lord Barnier.

Both Jacopo and Gratien formulate a plan to overthrow the lord, and as everything seems to fall perfectly into place there appeared a sudden obstacle in the midst of their battle: Ceren. Ceren, who they had treated as family and who Jacopo imagined had also been sold off, had actually helped Lord Barnier orchestrate the attack on the brothel due to her skewed perspective of love. And despite everything she had done for the lord he still uses her as a shield, stabbing her through her chest so that he may land an attack on Jacopo. Fortunately luck favors him, in the end, as Ceren holds Barner's blade between her fingers, and Jacopo uses this opportunity to decapitate her. The end of his blade cutting into the neck of the lord.

Jacopo then decapitates Barnier and obtains the throne.

Jacopo becomes well-acquainted with Barnier's aide, Odilon, who encourages Jacopo's perspective as the newly made lord the moment he begins expressing his control over the market and wanting it to benefit the common folk. Odilon is against his views and says that if he wishes to appeal to both the poor and the rich he needs to focus his attention on creating an economy that can support both -- as a result, Jacopo becomes an enemy to both friends and foes. In three years time Gratien, the man that he fought beside and who he could never win against in a battle, even managed to poison him while appearing as if he simply wanted to have drinks with an old friend. As consequence Jacopo kills him, succumbing to the poison but making a miraculous recovery at the expense of waking up to find out that Odilon had been struck by a rock thrown by a protester. Odilon passes despite Jacopo's pleas, and in an effort to express that he is not to be walked over he orders that the protesters be sentenced to death. Mounting both theirs and Gratien's heads in the city square.

As Jacopo continues as lord on his lonesome, he begins to expand the idea of aiding their lands financial issues by utilizing the church. Taking in a nun known for her kindness, already making the land itself famous for her presence alone, he also takes the opportunity of using "witch's blood" -- a tale of a witch who keeps to herself beside a lake, whose blood is rumored to possess the ability to cure any illness. Using the blood in exchange for tithes for the church, Jacopo sends his bodyguard (Yukimasa, currently unnamed in this timeline), to capture the witch.

He doesn't know who or what to expect when Yukimasa returns with the witch thrown into a sack. Initially throwing insults for their others actions until it is finally revealed to him that the lakeside with is no other than Morgana. He recognizes her immediately as the girl whom he promised to show the world, however through her perspective she sees Jacopo as nothing more than Barnier -- the lord who had previously abused her for her blood in his grotesque sabbaths. She scorns his existences, wanting him dead, and Jacopo can do nothing more than listen. Exhausted, both beyond repair, Jacopo decides to continue using Morgana's blood for the sake of the economy by imprisoning her on the top most tower within the church.

It is during their yearly Harvest Festival that things once again go array: Jacopo wishes to free Morgana from the tower... but she unfortunately dies. In her wake the city contacts a plaque that spreads at an alarming rate. Beginning with a young girl whose brother was an accomplish to Jacopo's plans of imprisoning Morgana, he follows his sister shortly after her death after informing the villagers that the medicine was witch's blood, and the one they should blame for this sudden illness is no other than their current lord. Yukimasa attempts to save the nun, only to fall in battle, and after Jacopo realizes that he has no right to die beside Morgana climbs down the tower to his inevitable death.

Morgana, still dead, then places a curse on the three who brought her the utmost pain in her life: Mell, Yukimasa, and the lord. Unbeknownst to her, the hate towards the lord stems out directly to Jacopo, as she claims that she hates him the most, and traps the three men within an eternal curse.

This ends the companion visual novel, Requiem, and the next half of the history begins the original where the main character adventures through the third door.

Jacopo is reincarnated in the late 1800's as son of the mafia in Sicily. However, due to his father being low in rank, his family lacked wealth and status which often lead to Jacopo being an outcast to the other children and members within the famiglia. Fortunately he did manage a childhood friend who he would keep at his side in the future -- the grandaughter of the capfamiglia, Maria. Yes. The same Maria from his past life, who he wished for her to live even if it meant spending the rest of her life hating him... only to have died due to the plaque that spread through Morgana's blood.

Their early childhood is spent bickering at one another, creating a solid bond that is severed after a series of events lead to the capofamiglia being murdered in a carriage accident. And the man responsible for issuing his death is no other than Jacopo's father, desperate to inherit the power of the mafia as his own. This results in the Bearzattis becoming the head of the family and, as expected, Jacopo follows his father's footsteps.

Jacopo's father then forces him to travel to America in order to expand their power beyond that of the tiny island of Sicily. He works his way up to earn his own status, becoming a self-managed and powerful businessman at the young age of twenty-six. It is also within this time that he is reunited with Maria after many years of being in America, bringing her to his estate as a maid in order to separate her from his power hungry father.

And despite this distance between himself and his blood family, Jacopo's family recognizes that his wealth would ultimately amount to nothing so long as he lacks status. With that in mind they arrange a marriage between himself and a noblewoman, Michelle, much to his dismay. The white-haired girl, the same girl centered around all the conflict within the previous doors in the game, is in fact a reincarnation of Morgana, who harbors her love towards Jacopo.

Their marriage starts and ends rocky, but at least we have a happy moment during their "honeymoon" where Jacopo complains about spaghetti, gifting her a phenakistoscope, and treating her to his usual tsundere behavior. And it is unfortunate, because what could have been a relatively beautiful relationship had been cursed to fail the very moment each individual involved was born.

The moment Michelle arrives in the mansion Maria begins orchestrating a plan against Jacopo and their marriage. Creating an elaborate lie and painting Michelle out to be having multiple affairs, all while pretending to be the best friend of both that essentially acts as a bridge connecting the two of them together. Maria is well aware of the fact that Jacopo has difficulties expressing his feelings, but she knows how to exploit the most ugliest part of him expertly, especially with the fact that their family follows a strict code that states that the capofamiglia must kill his wife if there is proof of her having an affair at the risk of losing his rank.

Jacopo then erupts after one too many planned situations where it appears as if Michelle is performing adultery, and it ends with him imprisoning her inside a shed outside the manor. A poor attempt of trying to protect her and end his paranoia, desperately not wanting to have to kill her, he only allows the other maids of the household, Maria included, to interact with her.

Michelle begins writing letters to Jacopo in hopes of mending their relationship, expressing her earnest love and patience. However they unfortunately land in the hands of Maria who cuts off top of each letter with Jacopo's name. Reporting to Jacopo that Michelle is still attempting to reach out to one of her many lovers all while turning back to Michelle, stating that Jacopo carelessly tosses her letters into the trash.

Jacopo wishes to meet Michelle face-to-face after the construction of a railroad he has been planning, however when the date arrives he opens the shed door only to see that Michelle had ran away. Leaving a letter behind expressing her sorrow, love, and farewell -- it is only now that Jacopo realizes what has happened, especially when the date of the railroad being complete does not match to what he had told Maria to inform her with, and he immediately leaves to find his childhood friend.

Their confrontation leads to Maria attempting to kill Jacopo by shooting him in the stomach, boasting about her plan and the very reason why she was so determined to ruin their lives. Aware that the Bearzattis are the reason why her grandfather and father died and, consequently, being the reason why she lost her status within the mafia, Maria came to hate Jacopo with all her being and wished to kill him and all of the Bearzatti family members as an act of revenge. However, just as she was tasting victory, Jacopo shouts, "You should have aimed between my eyes, Maria!" ... And shoots his only friend in the middle of her forehead, right between the eyes.

He organizes a private funeral for Maria, begins a search for Michelle only to never find a single lead, and dies alone. His soul then returns to purgatory where he continues to suffer until Morgana releases her curse at the end of the game. In modern times he's complaining about the stock market and owns a PS4 to play minecraft, I wish I was joking about this.

PERSONALITY:
Jacopo is... a lot.

In each life he has lived, Jacopo comes to the quick conclusion that if he wishes to survive he must fight independently for all of his goals. This is both his greatest strength and flaw, however, because while his dedication and hard work certainly bears fruit, his constant strive for results often leaves precious companions behind. It's a conscious thought of separating himself from others, purposefully putting the burden onto his shoulders, and consequently he never realizes the worst that may come of these situations until it is too late. One may describe this as arrogance, given Jacopo's exterior, but in reality it is all due to the fact that he is ultimately a person who cares too much.

He cares to the point that it causes him to become anxious and experience episodes of paranoia, fearful of rejection and failure. But Jacopo cannot show that side of him, never in a thousand years, and so he constructs walls around him; it becomes easier for acquaintances to describe him as unfavorable, cruel, and selfish, and that's because he presents himself as such. He is a man to be feared, as he is the next in line to become the capofamiglia, and so he shows no hesitation in ensuring that there is a certain level of respect installed into each individual he comes in contact with. He knows that it is a priority given his background. But a man originally with no status who came to America with nothing but the shirt on his back who built an empire after years of physical labor? You can't say that he didn't earn it.

And before he was a businessman there was once a life he lived as a lord infamous for his demand for authority, and that bleeds through in his cutthroat work ethic. Even when he had the utmost desire to bring peaceful times to the slums that he so desperately wanted to see flourish, he soon learned that not presenting his power would easily end with the people attempting to overthrow him -- and if there's one thing Jacopo knows how to do is survive. He does this when Gratien poisons him, and carries on in the 1800's when he retaliates against Maria during her attempt to murder him. He understands that it was an act of survival down to the very marrow in his bones, and still it doesn't make the pain any less bearable.

However he knows his actions don't deserve forgiveness or sympathy -- and he certainly doesn't search for it. When he goes to confront Michelle after he had imprisoned her within the shed he is clearly aware that his actions were much too cruel, reassuring her that she is free to reject him and leave so long as she is simply honest with him.

Hypocritical, considering he's a man who can hardly be honest with his own feelings, to the point that is almost comical. Jacopo falls in love with Morgana twice, but in each life the way he goes about expressing this typically goes array; typically hoping that simple gestures such as gift giving will be enough to cover the bases. However when teased for his awkwardness he often responds with obnoxious yelling and tangents that reveal a boyish side of him. In all honesty when you strip away the sarcasm Jacopo does have some redeeming qualities within him.

He shows kindness even though it may not be necessary, empathy towards those who have also lived a life of constant struggles, and extends his hand to those in need of help. (Though the latter can definitely be considered conditional depending on if it's beneficial towards him.) He knows how to take a joke and when to throw one in, though personally he'd like to steer away from anything crude to keep from embarrassing himself.

In conclusion, what you see on the surface of Jacopo is but a mess that contradicts what he truly desires in life. Dedicated to his work, difficult, but still genuinely caring for those around him, he is a man with his head in the clouds, wishing to change the world. He means well, but goes about it in all the wrong ways, and ultimately all he wants is to find a place to call home. For both himself and Morgana, of course, to finally put her soul at rest -- not as atonement for his sins -- because he wants to see it, too.

( tl;dr here's this. )

POWERS/ABILITIES: Jacopo is an average human being, however he does have an incredibly high pain tolerance as shown throughout the game (managing to continue fighting despite being stabbed in the chest/shot in the stomach). Aside from that he is particularly skilled with daggers and is noted to have incredible marksmanship. He's definitely adapt to hand-to-hand combat and is one of the last people you'd like to find yourself cornered by, because he certainly has no qualms with fighting dirty.

INVENTORY: A long barrel revolver, cigar case (three included), and a lighter.

MOONBLESSING: Sanguis
